“They’re just a good postseason team,” says Matt Carpenter, the third basemen for the Cardinals during a post game interview. What makes the Giants, a team that was struggling for the wild card spot, such a threat in the postseason? It certainly isn't the offense since the Giants’ have only hit 4 home runs this postseason while St. Louis hit 15. The Giants’ defense has come up big over these past couple of weeks and is what is allowing them to win games.
Before Game 5 vs the Cardinals the Giants had scored nine runs in their previous five games off of zero hits. The Giant’s postseason would be completely different if it weren't for the opposing defense giving them runs off of errors. On the other hand the Giants have only have 3 postseason errors. And for the most part, the Giants pitching been doing work. It seems that whenever the starters are having a poor game, the bullpen picks up the slack and finish the game strong. Game two was the only game the Giants bullpen didn't come through for the Giants which they ended up losing from a walk off run in the 9th. With that being said the bullpen for St. Louis struggled to shut down the Giants, allowing them the game winning runs in games 3, 4 and 5. The Giants defense and bullpen will need to stay strong going into the world series as they will be facing arguably the best bullpen in the MLB, the Kansas City Royals.
YAY Giants! It would be cool to tell a little story about where you were and what was going on when you watched the Giants be the Cardinals for the Nation League Championship. What a great nail biting game. I got a little teary eyed myself. #evenyears I've said it before and I'll say it again, good blog topic!
